BOOK: Inflamed: Deep Medicine & The Anatomy of Justice

May 6th-June 10th

Wednesdays 8-9:30 pm (est)

via ZOOM

We all see it, some of us feel it deeply: humans are sicker than we have ever been. From major illnesses to minor ailments here and there. Auto-immune disorders on the rise. Reproductive issues, obesity, severe fatigue, joint aches. You name it. So what’s up? Inflammation is.

Join the Brujas of Brooklyn for a six-week deep dive into the ways an inflamed society can lead to inflamed bodies. Together, we’ll explore the groundbreaking text Inflamed: Deep Medicine and the Anatomy of Injustice by Rupa Marya and Raj Patel. Beginning with the legacy of colonial violence and moving through the realities of medical racism, the book examines how structural injustice contributes to illness, challenging us to rethink both the origins of disease and the systems meant to treat it.

More than a book club, this is an inside look at one of our college courses—blended with elements of yoga and mindfulness. Each week, participants will hear from Professors Rodriguez, who will guide thoughtful discussions that unpack the ways systems of oppression—racism, sexism, homophobia, and more—shape our health in profound and often overlooked ways. Every session begins with a brief, grounding breathwork meditation to help you arrive fully present

Sessions will be recorded and shared with participants who cannot attend that week.

A course syllabus will be emailed closer to the start of class.
