sold out

PLEASE NOTE:

THIS IS THE 2ND WAVE OF OUR BOOKCLUB(+). THESE SESSIONS MEET ON TUESDAYS FROM 8–9 PM EST.

The Brujas of Brooklyn are hosting their first official online book club (+)!

Due to high demand, we’ve opened up a second wave. This session will meet via Zoom on Tuesdays from 8:00–9:00 PM (EST).

Together we will read Open Veins of Latin America by Eduardo Galeano—slowly, thoughtfully, and respectfully.

This book club is for people who want to understand how colonialism, imperialism, and exploitation shaped Latin America—and how those systems still affect the world today.

More than a book club, this is an inside look at one of our college courses—blended with elements of yoga and mindfulness. Each week, participants will hear from Professors Rodriguez as they guide discussion around that week’s chapter. Every session begins with a short, grounding breathwork meditation to help you arrive fully present.

We meet every TUESDAY evening, via ZOOM, from 8-9 p.m. EST.

We start on 1/20 and end on 2/17.

Sessions will be recorded and shared with participants who cannot attend that week.

Please obtain and read Chapter 1 of Galeano’s book as soon as possible so you are prepared for our first session on TUESDAY 1/20/26.

Why this book?

  • To better understand Latin American history and economics

  • To discuss colonialism and its lasting global effects

  • To connect historical exploitation to current political and economic realities (spurred by the Coup D’état in Venezuela)

  • To learn together for activism, self-awareness or general knowledge

  • To build political awareness through collective learning

Our mission:

To read Open Veins of Latin America critically and collectively, connect history to present struggles, and use knowledge as a foundation for social awareness and change.

This will be a respectful, discussion-based space. You don’t need to be an expert—just curious, open-minded, and willing to engage.

After signing up, you’ll receive a welcome email with the club’s Zoom link and other important information.

WE DO ASK THOSE WHO JOIN TO PLEASE CHECK ALL OF THEIR GMAIL FOLDERS FOR THIS WELCOME EMAIL!
