Ingredients:

Makes 2-3 servings

  • 4 cups of filtered water

  • 2 red apples (any kind works)

  • 1 large red onion

  • 4-6 sticks of Cinnamon

  • Ginger (to taste, depends on your spice preference)

  • Raw Honey

  • Limes

    • Dash of Cayenne Pepper (optional)

    • 10-12 Star Anise pods (optional)

    • 2-4 Garlic cloves, peeled (optional)

Directions:

  1. Place water in a large pot over high heat.

  2. Cut your apples and onion in quarters.

  3. Cut your ginger in half and gently smash (to release healing properties)

  4. Add apple and onion quarters, cinnamon and smashed ginger to large pot of water and place on high heat.

  5. Once water beings to boil allow to cook over high heat for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes lower heat and simmer, uncovered, for 20-25 minutes.

  6. Strain tea.

  7. Add honey and fresh lime juice (to taste) to a mug, pour tea and enjoy.

  8. Add a small amount of Cayenne Pepper for extra spice, omit if you prefer your tea less spicy and if you are working through Hypertension.

Your tea should be a light pink/amber color.

*If you would like to add Star Anise and/or Garlic, do so at the beginning when you add the rest of the ingredients.


When straining your tea, you can save the ingredients in the refrigerator and prepare another batch of tea 1-2 days later.

You may also smash the apples. Once in the mesh strainer, smash the apples which will create a thicker consistency to your tea. Discard apple pulp as well as the remaining ingredients.

Place remaining strained tea in a glass jar and seal tightly. This can live in your refrigerator for 7-10 days.

To reheat simply add tea into a small pot, heat, add honey and fresh lime juice to a mug, pour tea and enjoy.
